Hi! My name is Sakala Hughes, and I have been a student athlete for as long as I can remember. Throughout my life, I've had the opportunity to participate in gymnastics, dance, and cheerleading. These sports have helped shape who I am by teaching me discipline, confidence, teamwork, and perseverance.
While I have been fortunate enough to experience many opportunities, I have also seen the financial challenges that come with youth sports. Whether it was friends, teammates, or even in my own family, I've watched incredibly talented athletes walk away from the sports they loved simply because the cost became too much. And when tough circumstances hit, like divorce or death of a family member, sometimes dreams are minimized or get let behind. During difficult times, my own brothers and I had to make do with free or low cost programs that provided fewer pathways for success. I've also met kids who dreamed of trying a sport but never had the chance because their families couldn't afford the registration fees, equipment, uniforms, or travel expenses.
Every time I heard a story like that, it broke my heart. I realized that talent and passion shouldn't be limited by financial circumstances.
That's why I created this organization—to help give young athletes the opportunities they deserve. My goal is to connect generous donors and community members with student athletes who need financial support so they can pursue the sports they love. Beyond fundraising, I hope to build a community where every athlete feels encouraged, supported, and believed in.
Sports can change lives. They teach valuable life skills, create lifelong friendships, improve mental and physical health, and can even open doors to college scholarships and future careers. Every child deserves the opportunity to discover their passion, regardless of their family's financial situation.
Thank you for believing that every athlete deserves a chance
